HAPPY TURKEY DAY!

Now Let's get BASTED!!  =)

Because some of our family and friends are from out of town, we celebrate our Turkey Day AFTER Turkey Day.
Today, hubby and I will watch some football (did you know Kid Rock is doing the 1/2 time how for the Detroit Lions football game?)

Then we'll do some getting ready for our Turkey Day After Dinner.
We've got some seriously yummy stuff on our menu for Saturday -
Beef Tenderloin, Turkey, Our Yummy Loaded Mashed Taters, Basa & Kraut, Rolled Onions, Pierogies and Wine - LOTS of WINE (you'd understand if you ever attended one of our holiday dinners!!  =)
The boys spend several hours in the backyard over the deep fryer and we eat until we're so full we could nap for days.
Every year though - there's always lots of 'tovers as we call them headed out the door with family.
You can NEVER go wrong with a Polish Thanksgiving Meal at the Kaymin Kantina!!

I thought I'd share with you our invites for this year.

Bugaboo Freebie Friday!

Happy NUTTY Friday!
Here in the U.S. - deer hunting season officially started yesterday - at least if you're hunting with a rifle.

In the little town I grew up in, they had what they called the 'BUCK' Pole at the local sporting store - it's where all the folks that bagged a Buck would bring it to show it off.  Yah, I grew up in a little hick town.  Believe it or not, they STILL do this.

As usual, I digress......however, there is a method to my craziness.

Today at Bugaboo Stamps, Jodie had this super cute little "Hunting Nut".  =)  See - PERFECT Hunting/Buck Pole/Nutty fit, huh?

However, Girls hunt too (not this girl), but I thought it might be fun to see this in shades of GIRLY!  =)

God Bless our Veterans & Soldiers!!

With today being Veteran's Day and our family having several veterans as well as enlisted service men & women, I wanted to share an email someone had sent to me some time ago.  Today seems like the perfect occasion to share it.

If you'd like to make a difference in the lives of our soldiers, there are several organizations out there.
Two that our family is part of are the Soldier's Angels Organization and Operation Write Home.

Come join us and support these amazing people who have written their blank checks to the country they love!

Snack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation.

'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me.

'Petawawa. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan.

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that snack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time...

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a snack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to base.'

His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq ; it's almost like you are doing it for him.'

Picking up ten snacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?'

'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class.
'This is your thanks.'

After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars..

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand and said, 'I want to shake your hand.' Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base.

I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.'

Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers.

As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country.. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little...

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to ' the United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

And of course, I can't call out a Recipes Galore and not include a FOOD recipe!  =)
Yummy food recipe for the day?
Well, because it's getting a bit cooler here in Michigan, we're resorting to comfort foods and crock pot cooking.
Here's the most recent new recipe we've tried -
WHITE BEAN CHICKEN CHILI
From my hubby's TAILGATING book
(Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications)
Boil chicken (we used 5 LARGE boneless/skinless chicken breasts)
1/2 cup finely chopped sweet onion
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 14.5 oz cans Great Northern Beans, rinsed and drained
3 4 ounce cans diced green chili peppers, undrained (we only used 2 cans and that was enough "SPICE" for us)
1 14.5 oz can chicken broth
1 1/2 tea. garlic powder
1 1/2 tea. ground cumin
1 tea. garlic salt
1/4 tea. cayenne pepper
1/4 tea. ground black pepper
1 8 oz. carton sour cream
1/4 cup whipping cream
Optionals
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Diagonally sliced Green Onion

Boil chicken breasts with some garlic powder & pepper (in addition to what is call for here) until it is cooked through and no longer pink.  Shred chicken chicken and put it in the crock pot.
Add all items except for Sour cream and whipping cream.
Combine in crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours.
About 1/2 hour before you're ready to eat, mix in sour cream and whipping cream and heat until warmed.
Stir before serving.
Garnish chili with Shredded cheese and onions.
ENJOY!!!

So, head on over to The Bug Blog and play along!

A Freebie Friday from Bugaboo

in all it's yummy glory!!!!

Every year at Christmas, I host an annual cookie exchange - there are more cookies and sweets than you know what to do with.  Before we put ourselves in a sugary coma from all the yummy Christmas treats, we have a lovely brunch with my girlie friends and special women in our family.

It always turns out to be a lovely day.  I'm always looking for new cookie recipes to try every year for this cookie exchange (and I'm on the hunt for this years cookie exchange - HINT HINT - so if you've got a good cookie recipe, I'd love to have you share it with me).  =)

What you might ask got me talking about the Annual Kaymin Kantina Cookie Exchange?

Well, today Jodie has this super adorable new Ginger Pocket image - that will be PERFECT for some of the boxes and cans of cookies I share with family, friends and co-workers.  Add the cute image to the fact that I'd REALLY LOVE to find a great Gingerbread cookie recipe and there you have your answer.

So, now that I've bored you with the Christmassy details of my cookie exchange, I'll share with you the little Cookie tag I whipped up.
