Good Friend Challenge Week of October 12

WAIT, YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!!!
We're just getting dressed up for Halloween!!!
Spooky, huh?
Whew, what a week last week!!  On Tuesday, our laptop computer died - yep, kaput, kaplooie!!  No warning.  So, Glen and I spent last week trying to determine if it was better to get it fixed after 2 year and 2 weeks (of course the 2 year warrenty we'd purchased expired 2 weeks ago - perfect timing, huh?) or buy new.  So after much homework, we decided new was the way to go.  Friday my wonderful hubby did all the leg work and when I got home from work he was busy reloading software.  Amazing how much time dealing with a computer situation takes out of your life.......but BOY OH BOY is this new computer FAST!!!
So, onto the 'house cleaning' for the week.
How did YOU do with your weekly challenges??  Successful week??
I was able to get a few of my Scrap-Friendzy Challenges done - including this super cute little card for my favorite nephew.  He's going to be a purple dinosaur for Halloween, so this image (courtsey of Aprile on the Cricut MB for the October MCPT Challenge) was PERFECT!
I got PART of a gift album cut prior to the computer demise, so I ended up hand-cutting the papers for the album (UGH......hand cutting.......talk about ole' school), so that's coming together.  I thought we completely lost everything on our hard drive, but turns out we didn't, so all those cut files that I've designed I'll be able to save off onto a jump drive, including the current album I'm working on.  Whew, THANK GOODNESS!!!
Another week that I didn't get any layouts done though, which really bums me out because the Design Team has so many fabulous layout challenges!!
But let me tell you, the slippers are coming right along.  Finished another pair last night!
And because Halloween is my favorite Holiday, my hubby and I were able to take advantage of the 'nice' weather (50* and sunny) on Saturday and get all of our Halloween decorations & lights up.  I'll have to show you a picture.
So, this week will be a week of playing catch up -
At least 2 Scrap-Friendzy Challenges, including 1 Layout (this is first on my list this week!!)
Birthday cards & Turkey Day Dinner Invites
Work on Santa Album Design for December LSS Class
Gift albums
Idea for Halloween Costume - Any one have some fun home made costume ideas??

So, WHAT'S on YOUR list this week.........?
Happy Craftin'!

Thanks so much for joining our 2nd Birthday Celebration!!  If you haven't had a chance to hop by and visit my 9 fabulously talented design team sisters blogs, please start here and hop, hop, hop your way to inspiration!  Stop by all 10 blogs on the hop and leave a comment and you get 10 changes - yep, you read that right - 10 chances to win some YUMMY Scrappy Blog Hop Grand Prize Treasures (say that 5 times fast :)!!
You have until the end of October to complete the Blog Hop Challenges for Friendz Points at Scrap-Friendzy, but only until October 15th to leave a comment on all of the Blog Hop Stops to get your name in the bucket for the Goodies.
So, the Girlz have provided some awesome challenges for the last 9 days of our blog hop - amazing talent they have!!
Since today is the final day, you know a birthday party is never complete without a Birthday Gift or two and of course, the FABULOUS packaging those gifts come in!
So, I'm challenging you to "Wrap it up in a neat little package".
Your challenge is to create some type of packaging - it can be a 'good things come in small packages' box or a fabulous gift bag or any other neat-o crafty gift wrapping you can come up - the choice is yours.  And even better yet, it can be for any occasion (Birthday, Halloween or even Christmas if you're working ahead!!)
Here are a few of mine -
This was for my hubby's birthday last week - he's a huge baseball fan, so Grand Slam Gift Wrap seemed appropriate (complete with Wii games & accessories inside).

And what 4-year old Halloween Birthday Boy wouldn't enjoy opening this little ditty for some sweet treats from his Aunt Min & Uncle Glen?

This challenge is worth 40 Friendz Points!!  Complete your packaging and upload it into our Gallery at Scrap-Friendzy!!

Silent Night

So, I finally got the necessary ribbon together for the Glass Block I 'almost' finished over the weekend.  Doesn't it just make you crazy when you run out of something just as you're ready to use it?!  DOH!
Cricut - Calligraphy, Christmas Noel & George/ created in Design Studio
Vinly - Light Blue Wall-pops (from Lowe's last winter)
Standard Size Glass Block, frosted with Krylon Frosting paint
Ribbon - Michaels
Bow - The bow is a bit difficult to see - but it's a nice big loopy bow hand created by Moi! :)
I'm so pleased with the way it turned out.  This one will be going to my mom's store this weekend when we see them for sale.
If you're interested in purchasing one for yourself or a holiday gift, please feel free to contact me.

The Felted Slippers

So, on top of scrapbooking, card making & my mini albums, I also knit.  A few years ago when both my mom & I were 'relearning' how to knit, we'd try to take a class together each fall or winter.  One winter about 6 or 7 years ago, my mom and I took a Felted Slipper Knitting class.
I think everyone thought we were looney when we brought home a 'slipper' that looked like something a clown in a circus would wear.  However, because they were knit with wool, you throw them in the washer and guess what happens?  Yep, they shrink up like sheep in the rain and into something FABULOUS!!!
So, every few years, after the recipients wear the bottoms out, I start from the beginning and make everyone a pair of felted slippers for Christmas.  My dad and Glen usually get a new pair each Christmas.  My dad usually wears his out in 8 months, so it's gotten to be a funny gift between he and I.  This year I'm making 21 pair, hence getting started on CHRISTMAS gifts in September........
So, here's my start -

I made two pair last week (the purple & green) and have begun the first pair for this week.  I've made 6 pair in the last few weeks (I usually knit while we watch tv in the evening or sports.  My mom and I have also been known to take our knitting to football games, baseball games and pretty much any place else we can 'get away' with it.  You wouldn't believe the conversations we end up in with other people wondering what we're doing......:).
So, this is a slipper from the side, prior to felting - you can see the stitches much more than the second photo below.  This one is about 16" from end to end, just to give you an idea how they shrink down.

This is the felted slipper from the side (my mom made me these last winter).  I wear a 7 1/2 ish just to give you an idea of size.  They are the warmest slippers I think any of us have ever had and we haven't had a complaint from anyone yet.

So, that's the story of the felted slippers.
Hope you're having a great day!
Happy Craftin'!

Good Friend Challenge Week of October 5

Whew, what a week!
How did YOU do with your challenges this week?
I was relatively productive, but of course, we had a FEW nice days which we won't have many more of, so I didn't get EVERYTHING I wanted to get done.  But, there's always this week, right??
I was able to wrap up all the Halloween Cards I needed for the Kidd-o's in our family.

Didn't they turn out cute?  There are 6 of them total.
Image - House Mouse
Punch - MS Drippy Goo Punch
Papers - Doodlebug (older halloween papers), Purple, Green & Orange Cardstock
MS - Trick or Treat Stamp (embossed)
Orange & Diamond Stickles
I also NEARLY finished one of the Christmas projects I had, but DOH, ended up running out of the ribbon I needed.  I'll take a photo of it this week once I pick up the ribbon.
I was also able to wrap up my Design Team projects, but can't show them to you until a little later.  ;)
And last but not least - slippers are coming right along......I finished 2 pair this week - in the last 2 weeks I've done 5 pair.  I'll post the photo of all of them tomorrow as it was too dark to take photos last night by the time I finished.
I'll explain more about the felted slippers tomorrow when I post the photo.  :)
I think I may have been a bit OVER optimistic last week - I DIDN'T finish my one layout, but over all it was a very productive week.
So this week -
FINISH at least 1 Layout

Sweet Baby

It seems like it's been FOREVER since I've done a layout.  I'm not quite sure why - I have a crazy amount of photos and memories to be scrapped (don't we all).  I think it's been more of a case of missing mojo.  DOH!  I hate when that happens.
You can click the photos for larger images. :)
In anycase, today I decided when I walked by our fridge and saw this super cute photo of my cousin's baby, I was going to do a layout.  And a layout I did!  How absolutely adorable did this turn out?

Printed papers & Embellies - (Bird, Flowers, Journal Tag, Frame) - Garden Roses Digi-paper pack from Lettering Delights (I sized everything and then printed it out on cardstock & scrapped the 'ole school way :)
Paper - Core-dinations - Black, green, white & pink
Cricut - Accent Essentials (scallop), Home Decor (scallop), Lyrical Letters (title), Mini Monograms (scallop circle)
Cuttlebug - Script Texture Embossing folder
Miscellaneous - Lots of fussy cutting, Pearls, Pop-dots, Brown Paint, Baby rub-on, border punch

Don't miss your chance until midnight tonight to enter to win my Blog Candy!

Too cute Note Card

How cute did this little ditty turn out? I love leaving little notes around the house for my hubby and that's what this one was.  It's something we've done since we started dating.  I love finding a little note from Glen someplace unexpected.  It always makes me smile!  So, I thought this would give him a little grin.

Patterned Paper - Doodle Bug paper from my stash
Cardstock - Green CS and some Core-dinations Orange from my stash basket
Technique -   Magic Colored Pencil
Cricut - All Mixed Up Card for 'WOO-HOO'
Image - This was one that a friend sent me, so I have no idea who it's buy, but isn't it just an adorable little kitty?  (This is how one of our furbabies wakes us up on Saturday mornings when it's good food day).
Punch - MS
Miscellaneous Doodling (Can I tell you, I'm really enjoying doodling?!) :)

This was a Bonus Challenge for September over at Scrap-Friendzy - the challenge provided was to make a little note card to leave around for someone special, in a lunch box, desk drawer or brief case.
If you haven't had a chance to visit Scrap-Friendzy, you'll want to stop by and join the FUN.  We're getting ready to start celebrating Scrap-Friendzy's 2nd Birthday beginning October 1 with some great girlfriendz, great inspiration, awesome challenges and FUN!

Good Friend Challenge Week #7 Creativity

Another great week for the Good Friend Challenge!  I think we've all had a wonderful time with these weekly challenges.  It's always nice to have some crafty girlfriends to help get you motivated!!!
Rhonda made some awesome cards this week to add to her stash!  I love the simplicity of these cards.  They are the perfect sympathy cards!

Here was the quick one I put together - I really love the small embossing folders!!

I had fully intended to get into my studio yesterday but between the 're-organizing' bug that bit me and the nice weather we had yesterday it was a bit tough to get down there.  However, all creativity was not lost.  I have 20+ pair of felted slippers to make for Christmas gifts this year and recently wrapped up pair number 3 this weekend.  I'll have to post a photo of all of them once I get them all finished.  Needless to say my knitting needles will be going at a high rate of speed for the next few months!  Whew!
We've got rainy, cloudy & ewwww, sticky weather today, so I'm definitely headed to my studio tonight to work on a few Scrap-Friendzy challenges!

White Trash Birthday Bash

So, this is pretty much were all my creative energy went yesterday - our friends were having their 2nd Annual White Trash Bash, so Glen and I both needed costumes to 'fit in'.  This fat suit and pink polka dotted dress has more miles on it than we ever thought possible.  So much for my hairapy yesterday, huh?
Here's just one of the photos from last night.  We took a few more you can check out on our family blog here

I'll be back later with some real creativity. ;-)
Figured a good chuckle was in order this morning.

Foto Friday

It's Foto Friday at Scrap-Friendzy.  Jean always takes the most amazing photos, and as a fun challenge, each Friday, she gives us a 'new' way to take some photographs.
Last week it was using the Macro setting on our cameras -
These were a few of my photos from last week:
Front porch flowers
The last of our Roma tomatoes that may never turn red with this crazy weather!
The purple of the yellow & purple Front porch flowers
This week the challenge is 'Sweet Treats'.  Take a photo of something 'sweet'.  Hmmmm, sounded like the perfect reason to make some Chocolate Chip Cookies (and I needed something to take to a party tomorrow).  Can you say YUMM-O!?
Well, off to give Glen a run for his money in Tiger Woods Golf. :)
Hope you have a great weekend!

Simple is Best!

HAPPY SURVIVOR THURSDAY!!!  Yep, today's the day the new season of Survivor kicks off.  Glen and I have been hooked for years and so the journey begins!
Tonight at 8 - you know where we'll be!
It was my turn this week to post a Bonus Challenge over at Scrap-Friendzy.  In my opinion, there's nothing like a SIMPLE challenge that turns out looking like a million bucks!  The challenge was to not spend a lot of time or resources and make a SIMPLE card.
So, how's this for simple?
I'm so pleased with the way it turned out.  This card took me about 10 minutes to create and that includes pushing aside 'jaba' the cat (insert funny jaba the hut sound effect Glen makes when we refer to Jaba the Cat) while he was on my desk attempting to 'assist' me with the ribbon.
Papers - Core-dinations Whitewashed paper (teal) and Black Cardstock
Cuttlebug - Forever Friends Embossing Folder (Reverse embossed)
Diamond Stickles & Purple Ribbon
I also distressed the whitewashed part a bit so more of the teal would show through.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Hope you're having a great week!

Have you ever...

used an ad from the paper to create something?  Scrappy Inspiration through shopping?  The other day I was paging through the Target site and this bedding set that caught my eye.

This isn't anything that we would use to decorate with (our bedroom is tropical - Yellow & Orange) - we're not pink and black kind of decorators, but I can so see a girly girl using this bedding.
The colors, textures and patterns inspired me to create this card.
If you're looking for a place to find more inspiration - stop over to the Scrap-Friendzy site here and check out the awesome challenges the design team has posted so far - you've still got 1/2 the month to be inspired and compete for the 'Girlfriend' of the month.
Thanks again for stopping by!

Good Friend Challenge Week #7

This week's challenge was from Shelly - we were either supposed to do a prototype of our Christmas Cards, or a holiday card that we might use.  I did a bit of creating on a Christmas Card prototype this week.  I'm still tinkering with it a bit - because we usually send out 100+ Christmas cards I try & make them unique, but still relatively simple to produce in the large quantities.  It involves some fun paper, a little bit of cutting, maybe some stampin' and a bit of magic for the holiday!
Stay tuned for the final product in a mailbox near you in December.  :)
The challenge for this week - I'm still trying to stock up my card stash - of course, last weekend I needed 2 sympathy cards and had NONE.  DOH!
So, your challenge this week - Adding to your STASH
Items to use:  Cuttlebug Embossing folders or SOME sort of embossing & Paper scraps.
Scraps you say?  I'm not sure about you, but I have a 12x12 bin just FULL of paper scraps!!  So, dig thru that scrappy box you have and see what wonderful paper scraps you can find!!
You can make whatever themed card you wish - using any materials or embellishments you'd like.  And if you really want to increase your stash and find you LOVE the card you create, make a few more.  :)
Can't wait to see what you girls come up with!
Happy Monday & Happy Craftin'!

Sunny Sunflower

This little number was made in honor of my mom's birthday this past Friday, September 11th.
When I was little, we used to go to Minesota Fabrics (before the JoAnn and Michaels of the world existed).  My mom used to wheel the cart up to this gimundous (yep, that's a word in our house) bin filled with buttons.  Buttons of all shape, color and size.  She would find a button and my mission would be to find the other buttons that matched the button my mom found.  I'm sure many hours were spent over my childhood looking for matching buttons.
So, it seemed appropriate to include buttons on my mom's birthday card.  It's a moment in my childhood that I remember like it was yesterday and I'm sure my mom remembers too.
Card was cut using the Cricut & Design Studio - George and Stretch your Imagination
Buttons were ALL from my button box (the button box that my mom gave me, of course).
Papers are scrappy papers in Deep Meri-Gold, Brown & White from my stash
Ink - Chestnut Roan - Colorbox
Hope you're having a Sunny Shiney Sunday!

Birthday Calories Don't Count!!!

A word of wisdom to remember the next time you celebrate a birthday!
We have a bunch of September birthdays - my dear friends Amy and Sue, my mom and Aunt Mary.  So, when it comes to birthdays, it always involves some sort of yummy celebratory goodie.
So, of course, to celebrate a birthday - you've got to do it in yummy style!
This is a stamp set I picked up in the spring at Archivers - It hadn't seen ink until this week.  I couldn't post these cute little cards until I gave them to Amy & Sue today.
Plus, this was a perfect card for the Scrap-Friendzy challenge Cheryl gave us.  It was a  bonus challenge - make a Brightly Colored Card.
If you haven't checked out the Scrap-Friendzy challenges for this month, come on over and join us.  You won't be sorry!! :o)  Click here and stop by for a visit.
Didn't they turn out cute? (You can click on the image to get a better look at it).
Image/Sentiment - Stampendous
Paper - American Crafts (from my stash)
Ink - Black Starzon and Pumpkin Spice (Stampin' Up)
Hand Doodling & Magic Colored Pencil Technique
Stickles - Fruit Punch & Diamond
On the Inside I used Cuttlebug embossing folders: D'vine Swirl & Swiss Dots
Thanks for stopping by today!!
Hope you're having a terrific weekend!  We sure are here - our Michigan Wolverines beat Notre Dame this afternoon - so needless to say everyone in our house is hoarse from hootin' & hollerin'.  Gonna be a quiet Sunday watching NFL football.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

Happy Monday!  Today was the kind of Monday I like - one that I got to spend at home, enjoying the day.  I've got a list of felted slippers that need making for Christmas, so I was able to work on a pair while I enjoyed the time on the deck.  I've knitted 2 pair in the last 2 weeks.  It's never too early to start on Christmas projects! :o)  I've been working on several paper projects also - a chipboard album for a class at Live Laugh Love Scrap in October, Cards and some Design Team projects.  Right now I'm listening to it rain and contemplating an early night (nothing better than falling asleep to the rain!)
In any case, two of the cards I did today were Sympathy cards for a family who lost their mother/grandmother.  A wonderfully special lady who lived 101 years and would have celebrated 102 in November.  She was a woman I never met, but she was kind enough a few years ago after my mother in law asked me to knit her a foo-fa-la scarf.  In return she knitted Glen and I the most beautiful yellow blanket.  Certainly a woman who touched many lives in her time here.
These two cards are for her son with whom she lived and her granddaughter who is a family friend.  Simple but heartfelt.
Cuttlebug - Friends Forever Combo Embossing/Die
Paper - Purple, Navy and White Cardstock
Sentiment - computer generated
Miscellaneous - Diamond Stickles
Thanks so much for stopping by today.  If you haven't already entered yourself for my Blog Candy - stop here and enter for your chance to be my Anniversary Winner!
